A Hamas leader in Gaza accused Jews of having a biblical belief in using the blood of Christian children to make Pesach matzah, essentially reviving the old “blood libel” which dates back to the Middle Ages in Europe, and which was often used as a pretext to commit atrocities against Jewish communities.
The false allegation is still believed in some Arab cultures and is occasionally cited by officials and public figures.
The Jews, said Salah Al-Bardawil in an interview with Hamas TV last week, have an “ancient biblical beliefs, which instructed them to kill children and collect their blood, in order to knead it into the bread that is eaten on Passover.”
Al-Bardawil drew parallels between the medieval myth and the recent killings of some Palestinian attackers who have stabbed, run over or shot Israeli civilians or security forces over the past two months.
While Bardawil spoke, the channel ran pictures of some of the Palestinian terrorists who killed 18 Israelis, a US national and a Palestinian bystanders in the spate of attacks since October 1. In at least half of the near-daily attacks, the assailants were killed at the scene.
“This is the killing of a Palestinian child in order to collect his blood and to knead it into the bread they eat,” the Hamas leader said, according to a translation provided by the Middle East Media Research Institute (MEMRI).
“Why does the Zionist enemy, with all its might, execute Palestinian children? … The first reason for the targeting of Palestinian children has to do with faith. The Zionist entity subscribes to false biblical doctrines – especially today, when we are experiencing so-called extremism. But this is a typical Jewish situation, which is in harmony with the biblical-Zionist history and faith. This is manifest in the Quran, which quoted the Jews as saying: ‘kill the sons of the believers'[Quran 40:25]” he said.
The Hamas leader alleged that Israel “targets” children because they are “weaker and thus easier to kill than adults.”
“This is a cowardly enemy, which fears retaliation, and therefore it targets the weaker, still accomplishing the goal of reducing the number of Palestinians.”
“In addition, they have beliefs which they have tried to conceal from the world. I am referring to the ancient biblical beliefs, which instructed [the Jews] to kill children and collect their blood, in order to knead it into the bread that is eaten on Passover…Today, they are trying to say that these things never happened, and that it was a joke or a lie, but these are the facts of history. I challenge the Palestinians to come up with a “real” list of Palestinian children that have gone missing or turned up dead for unexplained reasons. What a bunch of losers to think that there are still people out there that believe this. Even the Goyim that hate us for whatever their reasons are – don’t believe this.
