“When a Jewish youth is suspected of mumbling a prayer on the Temple Mount he is immediately detained because of the status quo,” Honeinu says. “However a Muslim sheikh incites to injure Jews time after time, and this incitement leads to death, is investigated, but allowed to stay on the Temple Mount and continue to openly incite without an indictment being issued to him. We call on the relevant officials to come to their senses and rectify the situation.”
In August 2015 the Israeli Police announced that following a complaint filed by Honenu in June 2015 Sheikh Khaled al-Mughrabi had been detained for interrogation. The police recommended that Sheikh al-Mughrabi be brought to trial for incitement based on the content of the sermons he gave on the Temple Mount. Almost two months have passed since then and an indictment has not been filed yet against the Sheikh. In the meantime his sermons inciting to injure Jews have continued completely unhindered.
The “Palestinian Media Watch” organization publicized a sermon given by Sheikh al-Mughrabi in mid-October 2015 in which he defamed, insulted and incited to injure Jews:
“The Sons of Israel will be forced to change their plans to build the Temple inside the building of the El-Aqsa Mosque, and will be forced to build it outside of the El-Aqsa Mosque,” declared Sheikh al-Mughrabi, who sermonizes twice a week on the Temple Mount. “[It is] the Temple of heresy in which they worship Iblis [Satan]. Why? Because the false Messiah will not appear, unless the Temple is built and they worship in it Satan… [During the End of Days] we will go after the Jews everywhere. They will not escape from us. They will not be able to escape from us. And the rock and the tree will speak, according to the Hadith (tradition) of the prophet [Mohamed]… This is a reliable promise from the Prophet, according to which the tree and the rock will speak and will say: ‘O Muslim, there is a Jew behind me, come and kill him.’ The Sons of Israel will be destroyed, all of them, the false Messiah will be killed, and the Muslims will live in comfort for a long time.”
Due to the continued incitement, Honenu filed an additional complaint on Tuesday, October 27 with the Merchav David (Old City) Police in Jerusalem and also sent a petition to the Jerusalem District Attorney and the Attorney General demanding that an indictment be issued to Sheikh al-Mugrabi as soon as possible and that he be placed behind bars.
In June 2015 Sheikh al-Mughrabi included the following in his inciteful sermons. He said Jews are “vampires” and that “Satan puts nonsense into the Jews’ heads so they believe that if they drink other people’s blood in a special manner they will merit everlasting life.” Al-Mughrabi added that, “On Passover the Jews were accustomed to divide up into groups and each group grabbed a child, slaughtered him and baked matzot with his blood,” and further added that each group had a barrel called “the barrel of nails”, into which the child was placed so that the nails would cause his blood to flow and drain through a spout in the bottom of the barrel into the matza dough which was kneaded with the blood.”
