israel-spaceJewish philanthropist Sheldon Adelson and his wife Miriam have donated $16.4 million to SpaceIL, an Israeli nonprofit seeking to land the first Israeli spacecraft on the Moon.

SpaceIL is the only Israeli team currently competing in the Google Lunar X Prize competition to become the first team to successfully land a robotic spacecraft on the Moon and send pictures back to Earth.

“We are proud to support Israel and SpaceIL [as they] prove that dreams do come true and that hard work, vision, and dedication are rewarded. We stand proudly with SpaceIL in this extraordinary endeavor,” Sheldon Adelson said in a statement.

The donation will also support SpaceIL’s education goals in raising awareness about science and technology.

  1. Sheldon can write the high voice of Torah Judaism on the moon. But I do wonder just how he intends to face east. Fool.

  2. Too bad he didn’t see fit to donate to yeshivos or food banks like Yad Ezra v”Shulamit or Kupat Ha’ir, Vaad Harabbanim or save Hadassah Hospital from bankruptcy. If he wants to get closer to Hashem he should start keeping mitzvos.
