Ship Found in Arctic After 170 Years

One of the greatest sea mysteries may about to be solved, as either the HMS Erebus or the HMS Terror has been found by Canadian researchers this week. The ships were part of Sir John Franklin’s doomed Arctic expedition in 1845 to find the Northwest Passage to the Pacific Ocean.

The location of the wreckage backs up Inuit oral history that placed one wreck at this spot.

The wreckage was found on September 7 using a remotely operated underwater vehicle. “This is a great historic event,” Prime Minister Stephen Harper said. Read more at CBC.
