Rav Dov Kook of Teveria wrote a letter of complaint to Police Chief Ronny Alshich after a Jew told him that he could not become a traffic policeman unless he was willing to work Shabbos shifts.
Pointing out that traffic policemen are not generally involved in matters of piku’ach nefesh, Rav Kook requested Alshich “to remove this evil and disturbing condition which makes it impossible for a shomer Shabbos Jew to become a policeman.”
