There are reports of shots fired at John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York.
A call came in to the NYFD at about 9:40 p.m.
A passenger at JFK tweeted, “Panic at jfk theyre closing the gates at security-possible shooter.”
There is no further information at this time.
Update: Multiple reports indicate that there may have been a false alarm with regard to shots being fired. One report claims that the shots were actually noise emitted by speakers at the airport. This has not been confirmed.
There have been no injuries reported.
Update, 11:02 p.m.: Multiple calls started coming in at around 8:34 p.m. of reports of shots fired at Terminal 8, which underwent an evacuation order as police investigated together with the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey.
A ground stop has been put into effect at the airport.
Update: 11:08 p.m.: Matzav.com obtained the following statement regarding the situation at JFK from the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey: “Preliminary investigation does not indicate shots were fired at JFK. There are no injuries. At this time, no gun shells or other evidence of shots has been found. The terminal was evacuated out of an abundance of caution. Travelers should contact their carriers.There is substantial PAPD and NYPD presence at JFK and LGA. Investigation continues.”
