It appears that one plainclothes officer was killed at a cemetery in what started as police operation that went bad.
Two gunmen opened fire on police and people from a building on Martin Luther King Drive near Bidwell Avenue, injuring at least one police officer Tuesday afternoon and Jewish passerby.
Martin Luther King Drive has been cleared of people, police said.
The two gunmen arrived in the area in a U-Haul van after a shootout with police at the local cemetery, each carrying long guns into the the kosher supermarket, police said in radio transmissions.
The grocery is the Jersey City Kosher Supermarket. A Talmud Torah located on the second floor is currently on lockdown.
One yungerman was shot in the stomach but was able to run to safety. He has been taken to a hospital for medical treatment.
A second man is unaccounted for as the shootout between police officers and the gunmen continue.
The White House tweeted that President Trump has been updated on the situation and is closely following the operation.
