The presidential campaign of Florida Governor Ron DeSantis is criticizing former President Trump for his failure to dismiss Anthony Fauci during the COVID-19 pandemic. In a new video, which was shared by DeSantis’s rapid response team on Twitter, Trump’s decision to retain Fauci on his team is highlighted.

The 44-second video features clips of Trump from his time on NBC’s reality show “The Apprentice,” where he famously uttered the phrase “You’re fired” to contestants. These clips are contrasted with footage of Trump explaining why he chose not to fire Fauci, who served as a prominent figure in both the Trump and Biden administrations and was the former director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID).

The DeSantis campaign video includes a quote from Trump, in which he says, “Every time he goes on television, there’s always a bomb. But there’s a bigger bomb if you fire him.” Another clip shows Trump stating, “Frankly, you can’t win that one. If I would have done it, I would have taken heat.”

Fauci became a target for conservatives as he, along with other public health officials, advocated for lockdowns and social distancing measures during the pandemic. The video points out that over 1 million people have died from the coronavirus.

Despite Trump suggesting prior to the 2020 presidential election that he might dismiss Fauci after Election Day, he ultimately did not take such action. DeSantis aims to differentiate his handling of the pandemic from Trump’s, viewing it as an opportunity to gain an advantage over the former president, who currently leads in GOP polls.

Trump has responded to DeSantis’s criticism by highlighting Florida’s relatively high number of COVID-19 deaths and the state’s brief lockdown at the beginning of the pandemic. In a campaign video last month, Trump stated, “How about the fact that he had the third-most deaths of any state? Even Cuomo did better. He was No. 4.”

During Senator Joni Ernst’s annual Roast and Ride fundraiser in Des Moines, DeSantis praised Florida’s response to the pandemic, claiming that the state chose “freedom over Fauci-ism.” He argued that Florida refused to succumb to a dystopian society influenced by Fauci, where people’s livelihoods were destroyed and their freedoms curtailed.

  1. DeSantis Hits Trump For Not Firing Fauci AND YET, Desantis signed a bill for forced vaccination and involuntary quarantine because, Desantis said, “These vaccines are saving lives.”

    • What “bill for forced vaccination”? I am looking at Executive Order 21-81 which explicitly states just the opposite. And in fact, House Bill 1B (Senate Bill 2B) prohibits forced vaccinations in government and public education settings, as well protects parent’s choice on matters of their children’s health (vaccination and masks and quarantines), and on top of that places certain restrictions (not a blanket prohibition) on private employers’ right to demand employee vaccinations.

      • He signed at the very bottom of the bill flsenate.gov/Session/Bill/2021

  2. DeSantis wasn’t in an election year during the first year of the pandemic but Trump was in an election year and at the time Fauci was much more favorably viewed by a majority of the American public than Trump was. He had been advisor to every U.S. president since Republican Ronald Reagan. He had been awarded the presidential medal of freedom which is the highest civilian award in the United States by Republican president George W. Bush. Trump was dying to fire Fauci but it would have been political suicide for him to do so.

  3. In fairness it was widely rumored that Trump was considering firing Fauci. At that point in time however Fauci was so popular and looked at as a such a all knowing being that he couldn’t. At that point in time I was still a Trump supporter and remember how horrified I was at the thought of Trump firing him. It was only months later when Fauci kept on pouring cold water on potential cure after potential cure without ever offering any solution of his own and kept moving the goal points for when things can reopen that I realized what his true nature was.

    • Why? Haven’t you noticed that many readers of Jewish media, including this one, and a big percentage of the Chareidi olam believe that his vaccine is safe and effective (for whatever they were brainwashed). They claim they don’t know anyone that got injured or died from it and, like the Greeks, keep jabbing themselves with boosters.
