Simon & Schuster said on Thursday that it would cancel the publication of an upcoming book by Senator Josh Hawley, one of several members of Congress who tried to overturn the results of the presidential election.

Mr. Hawley, a Missouri Republican and Trump ally, has been criticized for challenging the results and accused of helping incite the mob that stormed the Capitol on Wednesday. His book, “The Tyranny of Big Tech,” was scheduled to be published in June.

“We did not come to this decision lightly,” Simon & Schuster said in a statement. “As a publisher it will always be our mission to amplify a variety of voices and viewpoints: At the same time we take seriously our larger public responsibility as citizens, and cannot support Senator Hawley after his role in what became a dangerous threat.”

In a statement posted to Twitter, Mr. Hawley said that the cancellation of his book was an affront to the First Amendment.

“This could not be more Orwellian,” he said. “Simon & Schuster is canceling my contract because I was representing my constituents, leading a debate on the Senate floor on voter integrity, which they have now decided to redefine as sedition.”

  1. “Mr. Hawley said that the cancellation of his book was an affront to the First Amendment.”

And he supposedly graduated from Yale Law School? This is actually an EXPRESSION of Simon and Schuster’s First Amendment rights. It decided it no longer wanted to publish a book by a traitor. Hawley must have slept through Constitutional Law at Yale when the Professor explained that the First Amendment applies only to the government, not to private businesses.

Or maybe Hawley would like to chance the many court decisions that suggest that corporations have First Amendment rights? Fine with me but he should be honest.

  2. Hawley is no patriot. He supported the overthrow of the elected President and Vice President in favor of an authoritarian would-be dictator. Feh.

  3. HAWLEY IS A PATRIOT. He spoke the truth. The election was a massive fraud, as any unprejudiced person with open eyes can see (e.g., Trump, our wonderful president, getting less than half a percent of the vote in Penn. after election night, when he got 70 percent beforehand in the legal counting). tHIS IS HOW NAZI GERMANY BEGAN. GOD SAVE US FROM THE LEFT/LIBERALS WHO’VE USURPED POWER AND ARE NOW TAKING OVER THE COUNTRY. TRUMP 2024 IS ALL THAT’S LEFT TO SAY — IF THERE IS STILL A COUNTRY LEFT BY THEN. TRUMP HAS BEEN THE BEST PRESIDENT THIS COUNTRY HAD SINCE LINCOLN, EVEN MORE EFFECIVE THAN REAGAN. HISTORY WILL JUDGE HIM AND ALL HIS ACCOMPLISHMENTS WELL.

    • Three, four thousand Americans are dying every day, and it’s continuing, while China has this virus largely under control. Is that your “best president”? I supported him until about March when he made it clear he did not care how many would die, as long as he’d be reelected. He wasn’t. Assuming he is still alive in four years, how many supporters of his will be left?

  4. How so funny that those self-proclaimed anti-communists insist upon dictating what other people should do with their own money.

  5. People on the left and right will have different opinions about President Trump and Senator Hawley. But it is amazing to see the outright lies and silliness shown here by some commenters.

Senator Hawley did his constitutional duty in objecting to some of the electors. To call him “seditious” or “traitor” is to completely distort the meaning of those words to essentially their very opposites.

Following the Constitution makes someone a patriot, not a traitor.
But, of course, the left doesn’t like facts that don’t fit their evil and destructive agenda.

Simon and Schuster have, of course, disgraced themselves with their decision, but, as is obvious to any thinking human, they chose to do this for one reason and one reason only, as King Shlomo mentioned: money.
