Simcha Eichenstein announced his candidacy today to succeed retiring NYS Assemblyman Dov Hikind in the 48th Assembly District. A lifelong resident of Boro Park and well-known member of the community, Simcha’s candidacy was long anticipated.

For years, Simcha has worked tirelessly on behalf of the community. For the past three and a half years, he has served on Mayor de Blasio’s policy team in Albany, where he has been responsible for legislation important to New York City. He routinely interacts with Assembly Members and Senators and is both well-liked and regarded as highly effective.

Prior to his appointment to the Mayor’s team, Simcha served as a senior advisor to NYS State Comptroller Thomas Dinapoli. In that capacity, he sat in on policy meetings with the Comptroller and worked as a liaison with various state agencies to resolve complex issues.

Hailing from a prominent rabbinical family, Simcha’s involvement in helping those in need began while he was still in yeshiva. Following a number of years as a successful community activist working with various mosdos and community organizations, Simcha understood that he would be more effective aiding his community if he learned the inner workings of government.

“Once people see you as a problem solver, you have to make a choice—either let them down or rise to the occasion,” Simcha said. “I strive to help people and never let them down.

“I look forward to speaking with the many people in our district that I have not had the opportunity to meet yet,” Simcha continued. “I want to talk about what I’ve done and what I’d like to accomplish, but most importantly I look forward to hearing about your needs and your ideas as I seek your support.”

Hikind (D-Brooklyn) announced his endorsement of Eichenstein to succeed him in the 48thAssembly District.

“I am relieved that someone with Simcha Eichenstein’s qualifications, experience and energy is stepping up as a candidate to represent our community in Albany,” said Assemblyman Hikind. “Effective public service requires relationship-building, a dedication to helping others, perseverance, and compassion. Simcha has all of these traits and has proven himself time and again as he works tirelessly for our community. He will make an excellent Assembly Member and I am eager to see him succeed.”

Eichenstein expressed his deep appreciation to Assemblyman Hikind and applauded Hikind’s unparalleled 36 years in office. “Dov Hikind exemplifies the notion of a public servant,” Simcha said. “Dov’s legendary work on behalf of the community and the klal have set the bar high for all elected officials and I am truly humbled by his endorsement. In the days and months ahead, I look forward to gaining the support of our district’s residents and promise to work hard to be worthy of this endorsement and our community’s trust.”

  1. Working for DeBlasio is not something you want to advertise. Did he help him with his mandatory gender neutral bathrooms? What is Mr. Eichenstein’s position on gay marriage? What about abortion? If he wants to represent us, as Frum Yidden, we have a right and a obligation to know where he stands on these issues.

    • 100% right. Anyone affiliated with DeBlasio and boasting about being a member of the evil, immoral and corrupt party aka Democratic should be ousted.

  2. For the past three and a half years, he has served on Mayor de Blasio’s policy team in Albany,

There is no way I can vote for him after this.

      • Yes. Among many other things there is a major difference between supporting someone despite his faults and actually partnering or working with him on issues of policy.

      • Interesting. The last I checked, Donald Trump is not running for the State Assembly position in the 48th district. I don’t see what the relevance is.
