skulener-rebbeYesterday, the Skulener Rebbe, Rav Yisroel Avraham Portugal, arrived in Lakewood for a seven-day visit. The Rebbe is one of the last of the admorim to survive the Holocaust and the excesses and tortures of Communist Romania for fostering Jewish education to war orphans, together with his father zt”l. For the last 50 years, he has devoted himself to helping Yiddishe neshamos in Eretz Yisroel.

The Rebbe will be in Lakewood until next Thursday, March 10. Members of the public will be welcome to schedule an appointment to meet the Rebbe and receive his bracha.

This Shabbos, Parshas PekudeiShekalim, a special Shabbos with the Rebbe will be held, followed by a gala melava malka on Motzoei Shabbos for the community at large.

The Rebbe is visiting Lakewood on behalf of the renowned Chesed L’Avraham Torah and chessed network in Eretz Yisroel established by his father. The network is comprised of three chessed homes for orphans and abused children and over 50 chapters across the country that offer afternoon and evening programs for children who would otherwise find themselves on the street. The Rebbe accepted responsibility to maintain and expand the network and to sponsor the chessed weddings of the graduates of these programs. It is for this cause, despite his advanced age and significant health issues, that the Rebbe travels to various communities around the world to garner support.

Theres nothing wrong with getting Chizzuk from a rebbe & learning from his ways etc… theres also nothing wrong with getting a bracha from a rebbe BUT getting a bracha from a rebbe & depending on it AKA: coming home & telling your wife we just got a bracha that were going to have a child or be rich or our daughter is going to have a refu’ah shleima etc… is a lack of Faith in Hashem.

for one that seeks out Hashem lacks nothing that is good (Tehillim chapter 34 & in end of Birchas Hamazon) Nothing in the world will effect a person of Bitachon, no matter what happens, cause he knows that everything Hashem does is for the good
