Congresswoman-elect Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, the youngest woman ever elected to Congress, can’t afford to rent an apartment in Washington, D.C. before she’s sworn in come January.

“I have three months without a salary before I’m a member of Congress. So, how do I get an apartment? Those little things are very real,” she told the New York Times. “We’re kind of just dealing with the logistics of it day by day, but I’ve really been just kind of squirreling away and then hoping that gets me to January.”

After the article was published, Ocasio-Cortez, who worked as a bartender prior to her political run, noted on Twitter that “our electoral system isn’t even designed (nor prepared) for working-class people to lead.” She said not to worry, she’s already working it out.

  1. Lesson learned – never take on a job, the description of which you don’t know, or a job that you are absolutely unqualified for, or the one that you cannot afford to have.
On a positive note, perhaps she could be on Section 8, like the majority of those who elected her.

  2. So here’s the dumbest person who don’t know what you doing but she’s going to make decisions about us makes a lot of sense

  3. Its not uncommon for members of congress to sleep in their offices due to the high expense of having to rent in D.C. while paying their regular housing expenses in their hometown.
