Soldier Wounded in Ramat Gan Attack

attack-ramat-ganA soldier is in moderate condition after being stabbed in the neck as he was disembarking a Ramat Gan bus this evening, in what could be a terrorist attack. Police said the attacker followed the soldier as he was getting off the bus, before stabbing his victim. The attacker then fled the scene. The soldier was rushed to Tel Aviv’s Ichilov Hospital for medical treatment.”The motive for the attack is unclear at this stage,” a Tel Aviv police spokesman said.

“We don’t yet know what the background is. We do have a description of the suspect and we have launched a hunt for him,” the spokesman added.

Tel Aviv Police said in a statement that “all lines of inquiry are being followed.”

A large police search has been launched to track down the suspect, with both ground forces and a police helicopter taking part.

Dozens of Palestinians who have entered Israel illegally were arrested in the Tel Aviv area in the hours following the attack, a police source said.

Immediately after the stabbing, eye witnesses reported hearing screams from direction of the back door of the 67 bus, and then seeing a soldier with a knife protruding from his neck.

No dispute between the soldier and the attacker appeared to have taken place before the attack.

The attacker reportedly has a Middle Eastern complexion.

Magen David Adom paramedics reported treating a soldier for a stab wound to his neck under his ear. The stab victim was fully conscious, paramedics added.
