Shimon Krauss received his upsherin on Lag Ba’omer in Meron in what was an emotional celebration. Shimon – who is named after Rav Shimon Bar Yochai – is a son of Reb Dovid Krauss, a 35-year-old chossid of Toldos Aharon who was one of those killed in the Meron disaster last year.

Shimon was born a week before Lag Ba’omer three years ago and went to Meron on the occasion of his upsherin, taken by his grandparents. They came to the very place where his father was killed last year, and his brothers said Kaddish. They then went up to the Toldos Aharon plaza together with the two grandfathers, Rabbi Shmuel Krauss and Rabbi Pinchas Krauss, who performed the upsherin.

Last Teves, as reported on Matzav, the Krauss family welcomed a baby boy, who joined the nine orphans in the family.

Reb Dovid was a beloved member of Toldos Aharon in Beit Shemesh, with a sparkling personality and a kind word for one and all.

It was reported that on the way to Meron on the eve of Lag Ba’omer last year, Reb Dovid told his children about the greatness of the Tanna Rav Shimon Bar Yochai, and even danced with them – a final dance – at the kever of Rav Shimon.

When he saw that the place around the kever was cramped, he brought his three small children to an elevated place and told them, ‘Wait for me a few minutes. Do not move. I am going to the kever for a minute and will return to you…”

After long hours that his wife couldn’t reach him did she receive a phone call from one of the Hatzolah volunteers, informing her that her three children were waiting near the kever compound.
