rav-chaim-kanievsky[Letters below.] On Friday, Matzav.com first posted a letter written on Erev Shabbos by Maran Rav Shmuel Kamenetsky, rosh yeshiva of Yeshiva of Philadelphia and senior member of the Moetzes Gedolei Hatorah ofhttp://matzav.com/wp-includes/js/tinymce/plugins/wordpress/img/trans.gif Agudas Yisroel, regarding the question of whether the American Olam Hayeshivos should participate in a http://matzav.com/wp-includes/js/tinymce/plugins/wordpress/img/trans.gifprotest rally to be held this Sunday in Manhattan against Israeli efforts to draft chareidim into the IDF. The letter confirms the previously well-publicized feelings of Maran Rav Aharon Leib Shteinman and Maran Rav Chaim Kanievsky in this regard. [Click here to read the letter.]

Unfortunately, there has still been some confusion and false claims as to Rav Chaim Kanievsky’s view on the matter despite it having been conveyed clearly via various mediums, including the letter from Rav Kamenetsky. Thus, a letter written on Friday by two sons of Rav Chaim, Rav Shlomo Kanievsky and Rav Yitzchok Shaul Kanievsky, has been released.

The letter makes clear that Rav Chaim’s feelings on the matter are that “since Rav Shteinman maintains that protests should not be made regarding this issue, that there is no purpose to them, that the main focus is to increase limud haTorah, yiras Shomayim and tefillos, and that only through this will all the terrible gezeiros be annulled, therefore, this is also the opinion of Rav Chaim, and everything that Maran Rav Shteinman says should be done.”

The statement is followed by the signatures of Rav Shlomo Kanievsky and Rav Yitzchok Shaul Kanievsky, as well as the signature of Rav Chaim Kanievsky, who writes that “all of this is clear and accurate.”
