Former U.S. President Donald Trump might reveal his vice presidential choice as early as this week, potentially before the debate on Thursday, according to four individuals familiar with the situation who spoke to NBC News on Tuesday.

Trump has publicly stated his intention to announce his pick shortly before or during the Republican convention next month. However, recent high-level discussions within the Trump campaign have considered accelerating this timeline for a more immediate impact, the sources indicated.

These sources also emphasized that the timing remains uncertain, and the decision might still align more closely with the convention.

Trump campaign senior adviser Chris LaCivita later commented on X, “Yes ..it could come as soon as today …or …sometime in mid-July !!”

Earlier this week, Trump mentioned to reporters at a campaign stop in Philadelphia that he knows his vice presidential choice but did not disclose the name. He noted that the individual will “most likely” be present at Thursday’s debate against President Joe Biden.

Trump also stated that “nobody knows” his decision yet. NBC News reported last week that North Dakota Gov. Doug Burgum, Ohio Sen. JD Vance, and Florida Sen. Marco Rubio are still prominent contenders for the VP position.

There was earlier speculation that former South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley, who competed against Trump for the Republican presidential nomination but later withdrew, could be his running mate. However, both Trump and Haley have recently denied this possibility.

  1. Under normal circumstances I would say that he should wait until v convention or somewhat closer to it however since he likes to get everything out of the way early, and that’s proven to be a good thing so far, maybe this isn’t the bad idea after all. The question is if his running mate has the intestinal fortitude to stand up to all the garbage that the left is going to throw at them.

  2. If I were advising him whom to pick I would tell him that his best choice would be either Florida Senator Marco Rubio or New York Representative Elise Stefanik. They both bring amongst other qualities, excitement to the ticket which will help the ticket maintain its enthusiasm going into campaign mode after the convention..
