Michigan Gov. Rick Snyder has scheduled a November 2018 election to replace disgraced Rep. John Conyers, D-Mich., a decision that will leave much of Detroit without representation in Congress for nearly a year.

The 88-year-old Conyers, who served in Congress for 52 years, stepped down Tuesday after multiple former aides accused him of misconduct.

  1. Why can’t the Republican Governor of Michigan choose who to replace John temporarily? Only the Democrats are allowed to do that?
