emmuel-parentsIsraeli Prison officials said today that special arrangements have been made at both men’s and women’s prisons to create conditions that would enable the chareidi parents of Emmanuel to be incarcerated without compromising on their Yahadus and halacha.

The parents will be imprisoned later today for two weeks for contempt of the court.

The court said that the imprisonment of one parent could be postponed till the release of the other, in order to ensure the welfare of the children, but only in the cases in which the parents file such a request.

Most of the Yidden being jailed by the Israeli government for wishing to send their children to the school of their choice are Slonimer chassidim.

  1. HOW COME IN THE US THE YESHIVOS HAVE NOT ORDERED THEIR TALMIDIM TO THE STREETS FOR A MASS RALLY IN SUPPORT OF DA’AS TORAH?????????? FELLOW JEWS IN NEED?????? TEIKU?? TEIKU???

  2. Mentch, who will learn Torah? The Roshei Yeshiva themselves didn’t ask it of the yeshiva bochurim, so that’s your daas torah.

There is always a balance. Mitzvos must be done and Torah must be learnt. Always.

If all the yeshiva boys leave yeshiva for this, the chilonim will have won the battle.

  3. It was always the position of Rav Ahron Kotler not to demonstrate publicly against the Zionists in the United States.

The majority of the Chasidim in the US will not demonstrate because they (Satmar, Bobov, Skver, Vishnitz-Monsey, etc.) are of the position that money should not be taken from the secular state to support chadorim regardless and therefore this is a non-issue to them.

I don’t know about Bobov and Skver, but Vizhnitz mosdos definitely take money from the government.

That aside, I agree that a demonstration here would accomplish nothing practical. But some kind of tefilla gathering or tehillim saying might be in order, as a form of sensitizing Yidden in the US to the plight of their brothers and sisters in Eretz Yisroel. Or perhaps students in heimishe mosdos in the US could write letters to the children of the incarcerated parents, expressing admiration and support.
