super-bowl-xlvii-in-the-superdome-in-new-orleansThe football season is just a few weeks old but already the Super Bowl is making news. Football fans that eat kosher will be able to purchase glatt kosher hot dogs and other food at Super Bowl XLVII in the Superdome  in New Orleans. The vendor will be Kosher Sports Inc., founded in 2003 and certified by the Star-K Kosher Certification.

Jonathan Katz, president of Kosher Sports, proudly stated that, “this is the first time there will be a glatt kosher food offering at the Pro Bowl or Super Bowl.” KSI is no stranger at big events, being the exclusive kosher caterers at many prominent sports stadiums and venues, such as the US Open Tennis Championships, Barclays Center, United Center, Oriole Park, American Airlines Arena, Ford Field, and Ravinia Music Festival.

But the Super Bowl won’t be the biggest event ever to offer kosher food. Hermolis Caterers of London provided close to 3,000 packaged meals for the athletes, staff, and journalists of the 2012 Summer Olympics. In addition, kosher sandwiches and hot meals for visitors were available from some vendors in the Olympic Park. Strikly Kosher, another sports caterer, offers Glatt Kosher fare at Yankee Stadium. Most of the stands at the sports arenas are also the convenient meeting areas for minyanim. In Yankee Stadium on most summer nights, it’s the seventh inning! For an even more exquisite game experience, they also offer private dining for suite owners, with an elaborate menu which includes a sushi bar, carving station, and fine napkin and silverware.

  1. I hope the people who are popping the $$$ for Superbowl tickets and plane fare to New Orleans aren’t asking for tuition reductions. With all the financial challenges facing our community, the last thing we need is to be throwing money away on this sort of narishkeit. Unfortunately, there will probably be people there who want to eat kosher. I won’t be one of them.
