reb_nachman_kletzkyThe traditional seven days of shivah for our beloved Leiby are complete, but the ache in our hearts will remain forever.

We thank G-d for the nearly nine beautiful years that He entrusted us with Leiby’s pure soul. We are certain that Leiby is now looking down from heaven and blessing us all.

We would like to once again thank all our friends and neighbors; all the selfless volunteers from near and far; local, city, state, and federal agencies; and all our fellow New Yorkers and beyond who assisted us physically, emotionally, and spiritually-as well as all of G-d’s children around the world who held our dear Leiby in their thoughts and prayers.

We pray that none of you should ever have to live through what we did. But if any tragedy is to ever befall any of you, G‑d forbid, you should be blessed with a community and public as supportive as ours. We feel that through Leiby we’ve become family with you all.

Many of you have asked us what you can do now in Leiby’s memory, and how you can help us find comfort. Looking back at Leiby’s all-too-short years among us, here are a few ideas:

Acts of unity and lovingkindness. Let us perpetuate the feeling of collective responsibility and love expressed during the search for Leiby. An additional act of kindness toward your neighbor, or to those less fortunate than you, can go a long, long way toward perfecting our world. Putting a couple of coins into a charity box daily is one way of tangibly expressing that lovingkindness.

Gratitude. Leiby deeply cherished his siddur, his prayerbook, and praying to G-d meant the world to him. He was known by his teachers for his concentration in prayer, always being the last to finish. In Leiby’s memory, when you wake up each morning take a few moments to pray and reflect and thank G-d for giving us life (“Modeh Ani” in the prayerbook).

Light. Every Friday evening our family sits down together for Shabbos dinner to the light of the Shabbos candles. A candle shines for each of our children-and Leiby’s candle will always be included. On Friday evening, please give a few coins to charity and light the candles before sunset with our beloved Leiby in mind.

Memorial fund. Together with Rabbi Binyamin Eisenberger, we have established a memorial fund to help people in dire need (www.leibykletzkymemorialfund.com), to channel the lovingkindness shown to us and our dear Leiby toward many, many others in need. We welcome your participation.

From the deepest place in our hearts, we thank you all for your help, your support and your prayers. May Leiby’s soul live on as a blessing inside each and every one of you.

Sincerely,
Nachman and Itta Kletzky

  1. Dear Reb Nachman
I was so moved by your hesped! May the inspiration I and others, many others, I’m sure, that was received by your solid Ahavas HaShem and your kabaloh of His ratzon be a z’chus for Leiby and serve as the merit that will bring us the Geula. This Tisha B’Av WILL be a Yom Tov!

  2. I don’t know how you have the strength to offer such kind words, or to be able to move on in life.
your family is a true inspiration to all of us.
may Hashem continue to bless you and your family and all of Klal Yisroel to have the strength to move on and turn this tragic event into something meaningful for us and the world.

  3. La’d the Kletzsky’s have taken this hard fastball of a situation and knocked it out of the park.

    Very inspirational.

  4. I cry just reading their heartfelt words – we should all certainly attempt to be Mekabel their requests. We should also always realize that the words we speak, and the words we write, are also forever, and can eternally hurt people in ways that Chazal equated to Retzicha.

May we be zoche to reach the level of Bein Adam L’chavayro that Chazal set forth for us.

  5. As the Lubavitcher Rebbe said after the loss of his Rebbetzin, we must “turn pain into action.”

This very moving letter both addresses our deepest pain but gives us marching orders – and a game plan to channel our sadness into healthy pursuits.

I wish this had not happened, but the Kletzy’s have raised all of us higher. May Hashem bless them!

  6. “turn pain into action” is wrong. You can not turn pain into anything other than greif. That you can turn your life into action is what you can do.

  7. to #5 & everyone else

WE LEFT HASHEM WITH NO CHOICE
Hashem is waiting for Klal yisroel to wake up & do teshuva
During the month of june 2011-over the time of 2 weeks-3 tzaddikim, from 3 different corners of the world left to the Olam Haemes (true world) & they’re names are Harav Yitzchok Dov Koppelman ZT”L from Europe, Harav Michel Yehuda Lefkowitz ZT”L from Eretz Yisroel & Harav Chaim Stein ZT”L from the U.S.A. When a tragedy like this strikes the world everyone is asking what is the message from Hashem?. The RAMCHAL in Sefer Derech Hashem quotes, when klal yisroel is in a state of Sinning R”L, suffering & pain may be imposed upon a tzaddik as an atonement for his entire generation. In doing so the Tzaddik is raised to a level of leadership in Gan eden. When THREE tzaddikim are niftar in a matter of two weeks, Hashem is already on the level of begging klal yisroel to just start Teshuva & show a sign of remorse & repentance so that it does not need to continue Chas V’shalom on to a fourth tzaddik.
These 3 Tzaddikim (above) were not enough. so this time Hashem sent a DIFFERENT KIND of tzaddik-a boy at the age of 8 R”L who has not sinned yet-to wake us all up to come to teshuva & STOP KEEP ON PUSHING IT OFF will this be enough or will it need to continue? that is up to all of us
START TESHUVA NOW BEFORE TRAGEDY STRIKES AGAIN C”V

  8. i saw your forced smile at the shiva in order to make the visitors feel comfortable. your such a genuine and sincere person. you and your family should only know goodness and Joy from now and going forward.

  9. It is motzei Shabbat in Las Vegas. As i was walking home from shul i saw a dove in the street. i approach him/her and i picked up the dove. the dove seemed to be injured and without a family. i brought it back to my Parent’s home. With my first step into the house the dove flew from my hand into the entrance door trying to escape. a few minutes later it flapped it’s wings on the floor, made 3 circles, it’s head moved gently to the floor while his eyes closed. HaSh-m showed me how fragile life is and another message, i hope, is that departing the world in like a kiss from the Almighty regardless of the physical perception of the living. May HaSh-m strengthen our emuna.

  10. What are you doing in such a tumadika place?! Please don’t bring raayos from a place of aveiro’s! No Yid should be found in Las Vegas R”L!
