Steve Witkoff, the U.S. Special Envoy to the Middle East, is scheduled to travel to the region in the coming days to push forward efforts aimed at securing a ceasefire and hostage release agreement between Israel and the Hamas terror group, according to a briefing on Tuesday by State Department spokesperson Tammy Bruce.
Bruce explained that Witkoff’s first stop will be in Europe, where he plans to hold discussions with officials while monitoring developments in the negotiations. Should enough headway be made, he is expected to proceed to Doha later in the week, where the talks are currently underway.
During the briefing, Bruce revealed that both Israel and Hamas have “agreed on a ceasefire framework that includes establishing a humanitarian corridor in the Gaza Strip.”
She emphasized that “the humanitarian situation in Gaza is the central issue we are dealing with.”
Earlier reports indicated that Hamas is anticipated to deliver its official reply to the most recent ceasefire proposal within the next 24 hours.
