Stolen Karlsburg Sifrei Torah Returned

khal-yirei-hashemMatzav.com has learned that the five Sifrei Torah reportedly stolen last Tuesday night from the Kalrsburg Bais Medrash on 53rd Street in Boro Park have been returned to the bais medrash in time for Lag Ba’omer.

Details are limited, but Brooklyn Assemblyman Dov Hikind has said that an anonymous individual returned the Sifrei Torah – valued at $50,000 apiece – as well as the silver accoutrements last night the District Attorney’s office where in detectives will continue their investigation.No charges have been made at the present time.

The Karlsberg Bais Medrash in Boro Park, Khal Yirei Hashem, is located on 53rd Street, between 15th and 16th avenues in Boro Park and is led by the venerable Karlburger Rov, Rav Yechezkel Roth, renowned posek. Rav Roth is currently in Eretz Yisroel to celebrate Lag Ba’omer in Meron.

Following the incident, Hikind  and Councilman David Greenfield offered a joint $10,000 reward to anyone with information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for the theft.

  1. With all the publicity surrounding this story, and the fact that the sifrei Torah were “fingerprinted” and registered for positive identification, the ganav must have realized that they were too “hot” to fence.

  2. There is a lot of missing information over here. Was this an inside job? Is there any din torah involved? Why is there no tumult in Boro Park about this? This whole story stinks to high heaven! Another cover up in our community & everyone is hush about it!
