The two people tragically killed in the Erev Shavuos Stolin bleacher collapse were R’ Mordechai Binyomin Rubinstein z”l, age 23, of Beitar Illit, and habochur Meir Globerman z”l, age 13. The levayos for both were held on Monday night, Motzoei Yom Tov, starting out in Givat Zev and finishing at the Shamgar funeral home in Yerushalayim.

184 people were injured when the newly-installed bleachers at the new Stoliner Bais Medrash in Givat Zev collapsed during a pre-Yom Tov chanukas habayis Sunday evening.

Camera footage of the tragic incident showed hundreds of men falling to the floor as the top three rows of the bleachers fell apart at about 7:15 p.m. on Sunday.

Later videos, first posted on Matzav.com, showed that some of the bleachers were being held together by 2×4 pieces of wood and twist ties.

The building did not have an occupancy permit. It subsequently emerged that warnings by various officials had been issued, stating that the building was not ready to be used by such a large crowd. A spokesman for Stoliner kehillah, though, said that safety permits had been obtained and that the failing lay in the construction of the bleachers.

There were 600 people in attendance when the tragic collapse occurred.

Hundreds of emergency services personnel, including police and Magen David Adom paramedics, arrived quickly at the site in Givat Zev – which was termed a

“mass-casualty-incident” – extracting the injured, providing emergency medical treatment, and taking those who were hurt to Shaare Tedek Medical Center, Hadassah Ein Karem, Hadassah Mount Scopus, and Sheba Medical Center in Tel Hashomer.

Five people suffered serious injuries.

Prime Minister Bibi Netanyahu issued a statement in response to the collapse, stating that he was “praying” for those hurt.

Prof. Iri Libergal, director of the Orthopedic Center at Hadassah hospital told Ynet that numerous life-saving orthopedic, neurological and abdominal surgeries were performed during the course of Sunday night on the seriously wounded. More operations were carried out on Monday.

  1. There were 600 people in attendance when the tragic collapse occurred.
Setting the record straight. On the bleachers that collapsed there were over 600 people. On shavuos morning about 500 people who were on those bleachers and fell about 20 feet to the floor bentched gomel in unison.

  2. We need Emes and Yashrus, not shtick.

Laws and building codes exist for good reason.

After this and what happened at Meron recently, much repentance is needed for those who take liberties and shortcuts with the safety of others.

  3. Chazal say in בבא קמא that someone who wants to be a Chosid should be mekayem מילי דנזיקין (the laws against causing damage to others). It does not say they should wear a shtreimel, bekishe, daven loud, etc.

    • Your hatred for a sect of Kllal Yisroel is what’s keeping Moshiach away. You should be ashamed of yourself.

      • Rather than engaging in ad-hominem attack, be אוהב את התוכחות, as it says in Pirkei Avos.

  4. Your article is offensive and gag inducing. Making assumptions and drawing conclusions as of you know it all.

  5. The media spreads lies.
First- Those are NOT twist ties!!! Those are steel wiring, which is used a lot around here.
The bleachers were rented, they did not belong to karlin. Karlin has other ones.
They did have permits. And even if they didn’t= what does the building have to do with the bleachers collapsing?
Karlin is crazy makpid on all things safety related. They are warm, simple people, who are considerate to their non religious neighbors.
    There is noone to blame.
Hashem sent this our way for a reason.

  6. If you understand Hebrew: watch the video you can hear for yourself they are saying that it was metal wiring NOT TWIST TIES

  7. These were rented bleachers. Please dont post offensive comments. Btw i dont wear streimel, but lets not sound like a bunch of 10th graders.

  8. Why do you believe everything you hear?! If safety inspections have passed, whether or not the final permit came out of the printer is irrelevant here. And yes, bleachers inside a building have nothing to do with those inspections or permits!! Karlin is extremely cautious, they were super careful about Covid and in general are a quiet toned-down community.
