Chesed of Lakewood’s Sukkah Exchange Program has reached the very high rate of 67% of people receiving sukkahs.  It is extremely heartwarming to see how klalyisrael from all over the tri-state area getting involved and calling in to offer their unused sukkahs to others. After the previous story on Matzav, offers of sukkahs came in from Kiryas Yoel, Monsey, Teaneck, Elizabeth, Passaic, Brooklyn, and Lakewood.

A very special thank you goes to those volunteers who somehow managed to make time in their busy pre-yom tov schedule to build sukkahs for those in special circumstances. The tremendous simcha they are bringing families is what keeps these crews going at all hours, as they go from sukkah to sukkah, schlepping and building.  To quote a volunteer named Tovya, “I’ve never seen someone so happy in my life” after we finished building their sukkah.

The Sukkah Exchange will be operating until Erev Yomtov, but we do ask all of you who would normally wait till your new sukkah is built or expanded to offer your sukkah to the Exchange right away, and give a family the menuchas hanefesh of knowing that they will have a sukkah for Sukkos.

Presently there are upwards of 130 requests for families needing sukkahs with the number climbing and we hope to make matches for every one of those requests.  To reach this program, email [email protected] or call/text 732 901 0482 (ext 4)  Donations to this program can be made at www.chesedoflakewood.org

May we share next year’s Yomtov of Sukkos in Yerushalayim.
