Over ten thousand overseas Jews were buried in Israel over the past decade and the numbers are increasing, Haaretz reported. 4,900 of the interred came from the United States, 5,100 from France, 520 from Britain, 250 from Belgium, and 225 from Russia. According to Foreign Ministry figures, the number of such burials including those of foreigners who died while visiting Israel grew from 850 in 2007 to 1,590 in 2017.

A number of companies specialize in helping bereaved families bury their beloved ones in Israel, offering to do all practical arrangements, including the erection of a headstone and the reciting of Kaddish, if necessary.

Unlike Israelis who are generally provided with free funerals by the National Insurance Institute, foreigners pay according to location, with the price of kevorim costing $8,000, $16,000 or $20,000 in Beit Shemesh, Petach Tikvah and Tel Aviv respectively, according to Haaretz.

The Netzach Hazeitim Company is offering plots in Chelkas Hanevi’im, “one of the most coveted areas of Har Hazeisim” close to the kevorim of the nevi’im Zechariah, Malachi and Chagai, for an introductory price of $19,000 a kever, not including other services.

Both the Chofetz Chaim and Rav Ahron Kotler held it would be a much bigger zchus to be buried in Chu’l and give the extra money to tzedoka. Rav Henkin held that burial in EY is not in Accordance with takkonas RSBG particularly if they are collecting for the almonah and yesomim afterwards.
