[Click here for letter from roshei yeshiva.] As reported earlier here on Matzav.com, downtown Lakewood will be closed tomorrow for the funeral of fallen police officer Christopher Matlosz.
Matlosz, 27, was killed in the line of duty on Friday afternoon in Lakewood after being shot three times while sitting inside his patrol car during a routine stop.
The suspect, Jahmell Crockam, 19, appeared in Superior Court in Toms River yesterday afternoon. Crockam was arrested Sunday morning in Camden after a 40-hour manhunt. He is facing murder and weapons charges in connections with Matlosz’s death.
Following the murder, on Sunday, Rav Aryeh Malkiel Kotler, rosh yeshiva of Beth Medrash Govoha, and Rav Matisyahu Salomon, mashgiach of Beth Medrash Govoha, paid a visit to Police Headquarters on Third Street to wish their condolences to the Police Chief, Rob Lawson, and the entire Lakewood Police Department. The tragedy, they said, is one that is felt by the entire Lakewood community.
The roshei yeshiva and rabbonim have urged talmidim of the yeshiva and the Jewish community at large to join in paying respects to the fallen officer tomorrow, at the funeral, along with the rest of the town and the police force. A number of dignitaries from around the state are expected to be in attendance as well.
The funeral will commence at noon.

“We are in golus and we have to pay our proper respects.”
Quite so, but I would add that we should always be respectful of others – golus or no golus. It’s called derech eretz.
It would be a Chilul Hashem if there was not a significant Yeshiva presence.
anonymous #1: there is also an inyan of hakaras hatov.
May the officer rest in peace.
