Firefighters called in to extinguish a blaze in Beitar Illit triggered by a charging bicycle battery were amazed to find an unscathed pair of tefillin inside their incinerated bag.
“It was an absolute open miracle,” said the shift commander, Reshef Avi Ben Saadoun.
He warned that bicycle batteries should not be charged without supervision and certainly not left charging overnight.
In another incident, two patients injured in a fire at Ramat Gan’s Tel Hashomer Hospital tragically died of their wounds.
The fire was caused by one of the victims illegally smoking a cigarette while attached to oxygen in the hospital’s internal medicine division.
