It is with great sadness that Matzav.com reports the passing of Rabbi Yaakov Gershon Bursztyn z”l, who suffered a heart attack on Shabbos morning in Lakewood, NJ, where he resided. He was 74.

Rabbi Bursztyn served as the registrar at Beth Medrash Govoah, whose hanhalah he had been a part of for many years.

Rabbi Bursztyn was in serious condition and was being treated at Jersey Shore Medical Center in Neptune, NJ. He passed away this morning.

Rabbi Burstzyn grew up in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, a son of Dr. Naftali Hertz Brusztyn and Mrs. Esther Burztyn. He was a son-in-law of Rabbi and Mrs. Hersh Genaur.

He leaves behind his wife, Mrs. Chevy Bursztyn, and their family of wonderful bnei and bnso Torah, outstanding members of their respective communities. He also leaves behind his siblings and their families.

The levaya will take place at 2 p.m. at Beth Medrash Govoha, located at 617 6th Street, between Private Way and Lakewood Avenue, in Lakewood, NJ. Kevurah will follow at the E. 7th St. Cemetery in Lakewood.
