rav-mordechai-eliyahuYesterday, tefillah gatherings were held at several locations across Eretz Yisroel for Rav Mordechai Eliyahu, former Sefardic Chief Rabbi of Israel, whose health has deteriorated of late. Rav Eliyahu continues to be under the close care of physicians at Shaarei Tzedek Medical Center in Yerushalayim.

Doctors had originally called Rav Eliyahu’s chance of improvement “nonexistent,” but tefillos have helped over the past few months, and it is hoped that continued prayer will help Rav Eliyahu overcome the current health difficulties.

Atzeres tefillah gatherings were held yesterday for Rav Eliyahu at the Kosel, at the kever of Rav Shimon bar Yochai in Meron, and at the kever of the Baba Sali in Netivot.

Last year, the 81-year-old former Rishon Letzion suffered a heart attack and underwent bypass surgery. He later suffered a stroke, and last summer collapsed at his Kiryat Moshe home.

Rav Eliyahu served as Chief Rabbi of Israel from 1983 to 1993.

All are asked to continue davening for Rav Mordechai Tzemach ben Mazal l’refuah sheleimah.
