Tel Aviv Mayor Ron Huldai will announce on Tuesday his entry into national politics and the formation of a new party ahead of Israel’s upcoming elections for parliament, Hebrew media outlets reported.

“Hundreds of thousands of Israelis feel they have no home in the current political set up,” Huldai said in a statement as cited by outlet N12.

“We will lift their chins and bring back their hope. After a number of key figures in the Israeli public decided to join [my way], it is high time to present a clear alternative,” the statement concluded.

In a poll published Sunday on broadcaster Channel 12, Huldai, together with lawmaker Ofer Shelah and the Labor party, would gain seven parliament seats if elections were held today.

  1. It seems like every other day, someone is starting a new party. According to multiple facetious reports, a Labor Party official, who wishes to remain facetious, was asked if he would join Mr. Huldai’s new party. Mr. Huldai replied: “Sorry, but I’m not going to be a party to this.”

  2. Correction to my previous comment: I mistakenly stated that Mr Huldai was the one who responded to the reporter, which is incorrect; it was the Labor Party official who responded to the reporter, according to multiple facetious reports. Sorry, if any confusion was created by my mistake. Moral of the story: Life is confusing enough, why make it more confusing?
