[Video below.] Tens of thousands of Yidden gathered in Yerushalayim tonight to protest plans to enlist bnei yeshiva into the IDF.
Thousands engulfed streets near the city’s military draft bureau on Rechov Rashi where the crowd heard divrei hisorerus and chizuk.
Speakers included Rav Moshe SHternbuch, rosh av bais din of the Eidah Hachareidis Rav Yitzchok Tuvia Weiss, gaon av bais din of the Eidah Hachareidis; Rav Shmuel Auerbach, rosh yeshiva of Yeshiva Maalos Hatorah; Rav Yehudah Addas; and Rav Moshe Tzadka. Kabbolas ohl malchus Shomayim was led by the Toldos Aharon Rebbe.
The current coalition government in Israel has committed to increase drafting chareidim who receive exemptions in order to ostensibly “share the national burden.”
Police spokesman Micky Rosenfeld said at least 20,000 took part in the protest.
Police officers, some on horseback, were rough with some members of the crowd, even using stun grenades against some of them. A water cannon was also deployed.
On Erev Yom Tov, a budget draft was approved that will slash spending and hike taxes this year and next to rein in a growing budget deficit. Yair Lapid has warned that failure to implement public spending cuts could cause an economic collapse.
Israel’s budget deficit was 4.2 percent of gross domestic product (GDP) last year – more than double its initial target -due to overspending by the previous government and lower-than-expected tax revenues as the economy slowed.
Israeli men and women who are called up for military service serve for up to three years when they turn 18.
Most Arab citizens of Israel are exempt from the military.

may the sonei torah fail miserably
The police were rough with the crowd because instead of protesting peacefully, a bunch of idiots provoked the police by throwing trash and setting dumpsters on fire. One group rolled several dumpsters downhill at the mounted police.
I don’t get it, we can’t find any more/enough enemies out for our destruction, so now we have to do it ourselves?
amen
Why must there be violence????
At first it looked like Tahir Square!
So sad!
Rav Shteinman, the Gerrer Rebbe and the Belzer Rebbe were against this protest
The article fails to mention that Rav Shteinman, the Gerrer Rebbe and the Belzer Rebbe were against this protest.
Just a bit confusing. The picture and the video seem to be portraying two completely different pictures.
