An Ocean County man faces attempted murder and other charges after detectives say he carjacked a vehicle, struck two pedestrians with it, and stabbed a man in the chest, all in Lakewood, NJ.

Dion Marsh, 27, of Manchester Township, is charged with three counts of attempted murder, weapons possession, and three counts of bias intimidation for a series of violent crimes that occurred Friday afternoon in Lakewood, according to Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer.

The crime spree, being called a “terror attack” by some, shook the frum residents in Lakewood, as all the victims of Marsh’s attacks are members of the local frum community.

On Friday, at approximately 1:15 p.m., officers from the Lakewood Township Police Department were summoned to the area of Martin Luther King Drive and Pine Street for a report of carjacking. Responding officers determined that a male suspect approached a 2016 Toyota Camry, assaulted the driver, and fled the area in the vehicle. An African-American male approached the driver, a yungerman who was sitting in his idle car, requesting a ride. When the driver demurred, the man attacked him, punching the driver repeatedly.

The driver, attempting  to get away from the attacker, exited his vehicle, at which point the perp moved in, jumped into the car, and, with keys in the ignition, drove off, leaving the driver dumbstruck. Hatzolah arrived at the scene and treated the driver, while police were contacted and launched a search for the carjacker and the vehicle.

At approximately 6:00 p.m., Lakewood Township Police received a report of a pedestrian being struck by a motor vehicle in the area of Central Avenue and Carlton Avenue. Responding officers discovered that a male victim had been struck by a dark colored vehicle. Marsh tried to abduct the victim – a bochur – who got away. The victim was taken to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune where he is listed in stable condition.

At approximately 6:55 p.m., Lakewood Township Police Officers responded to a 911 call in reference to a stabbing in the vicinity of Pine Circle Drive and Central Avenue/Lakewood New Egypt Road. The officers discovered a male victim with a stab wound to his chest. The victim was taken to Jersey Shore University Medical Center where he is listed in critical but stable condition.

At approximately 8:20 p.m., officers from the Jackson Township Police Department responded to a 911 call for a report of a pedestrian being struck by a motor vehicle in the area of Galassi Court. Responding officers were able to determine that the male victim had been struck by the same vehicle that was taken in the carjacking incident in Lakewood earlier in the day. The victim was taken to Jersey Shore University Medical Center where he is listed in critical but stable condition.

An investigation conducted by the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crime Unit and Lakewood Township Police Department revealed that Marsh was responsible for all of these attacks.

On Friday night, detectives from the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crime Unit and Manchester Township Police Department arrested Marsh at his residence in Manchester Township without incident. Marsh is currently lodged in the Ocean County Jail pending a detention hearing.

Prosecutor Billhimer and Chief Meyer commend the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crime Unit, Lakewood Township Police Department, Lakewood Township Police Department Detective Bureau, Jackson Township Police Department, Manchester Township Police Department, Ocean County Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Investigation Unit, Ocean County Sheriff’s Office K-9 Unit, New Jersey State Police, Federal Bureau of Investigation, United States Marshals Service, and New Jersey Department of Homeland Security and Preparedness for their collective efforts in connection with this investigation leading to Marsh’s swift apprehension.

“Our investigation reveals that these criminal acts were committed throughout the day yesterday into the early evening and that Marsh was acting alone and not in concert with anyone else. I’m grateful for the collaborative efforts of every police officer and detective that worked swiftly to identify Marsh and bring him into custody without further injury to anyone. A tremendous job by all involved,” Billhimer stated.

“I applaud the efforts of law enforcement in Lakewood and Ocean County for swiftly apprehending the individual believed to have committed a series of serious criminal acts last night, including multiple violent offenses,” New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy said in a statement. “Tammy and I pray for the full recovery of all victims. The safety of our communities, and notably our communities of faith, is not only a paramount concern but among my highest priorities. We will continue to partner with all who share this commitment so no resident ever needs to live in fear.”

All are asked to daven for Moshe Yigal ben Brunya, and Tzvi Aryeh ben Rivkah Leah, two of the victims of Friday’s violence who need a refuah sheleimah.

  1. We frum Jews in our neighborhoods need to go back to the good ol days of a Williamsburg “chaptzem” where we attack the perp en masse and beat him to within an inch of his life. Word gets back to his buddies and they think twice before trying to commit crimes in our neighborhoods. Cops looked the other way back then and they will look the other way now.

    • That used to work quite well, in the old times. Attempting such measures in these times would result in mass protests with looting and violence, protected by the leftist governor.
You cannot even SWAT a disease-carrying insect these days, because Black Flies Matter.

  2. Yet another outbreak of the Ebonic Plague.
Please try to convince me that their lives should matter, blah, blah.

Why lunatic? That gives this animal’s behavior some sort of justification, and sets him aside from the “normal” members of a certain community. Have you seen their nonstop activity in neighboring NYC? Have you read the latest crime statistics throughout NJ? Have you forgotten how tens of thousands of these same folks behaved during the last riots? Such behavior appears as more of the norm than isolated manifestations of lunacy.

  3. Why do you refer to him as a lunatic?
That implies he is not responsible for his actions
He is no lunatic this was premeditated
    He is pure evil !!

  4. President Biden is correct. WHITE supremacy is thee greatest threat facing this nation! Merrick Garland has got to crack down on white middle class parents. When will whites pay black folks their rightful reparations?

  5. Oh please. You are all so judgmental. This perp, I mean gentleman, was just trying to compensate for the unfair treatment that his community receives. After all, we haven’t yet filled the entire supreme court with liberal African American justices. And on a serious note, trust me, this guy will be out on the streets again in a jiffy.

  6. If a few guys like him would be taught street justice, these incidents would probably stop. Shoot a few of these perps, and the word gets out, it would probably stop (on frum Jews).

  7. It always bothers me when such vile creatures are arrested without incidents. I would much prefer for them to make threats, or be holding a weapon, so that they could be eliminated immediately.
There is no reason to waste time and resources to try them, incarcerate them, go through all the appeals and motions. A bullet between the eyes, and an instant trip to pergatory.
