terror attack[Updates below.] 7:58 a.m.: There are reports of a stabbing attack moments ago in the Beit Shemesh area. At least one person has been injured after being stabbed by an Arab terrorist. Two terrorists have been neutralized.

Multiple people are being treated for shock.

Update, 8:13 a.m.: Two terrorists attempted to stab Israelis at the local Kol Yehuda shul at Rechov Yechezkel Hanovi and Rechov Chabakuk in Ramat Beit Shemesh Gimmel. They were shot and seriously wounded, and then apprehended by police.

The terrorists injured several people, including one person davening at the shul, said to be an 18-year-old, who was injured in the head and taken to Hadassah Medical Center in Yerushalayim.

The Jerusalem Post reported that the terrorists attacked a police officer in Beit Shemesh, but that would seem to be incorrect.

Update: 8:27 a.m.: The two attackers have been identified as Palestinians, who, according to one source, tried to enter the shul while a minyan for Shacharis was taking place. One person rushed them in the doorway and was stabbed.

The 18-year-old who was stabbed is said to be in light to moderate condition.

The terrorists were not killed. They were being treated by paramedics at the scene.

Update, 8:40 a.m.: Beit Shemesh Mayor Moshe Abutbul is at the scene. He said that there is a large construction project near the site of the attack and that officials will have to examine how to proceed with that site in light of this morning’s attack.

Update, 8:50 a.m.: An eyewitness at the scene said that the two Arabs were identified as suspicious by residents, who called the police to come and detain them. “They saw the attackers, who tried to stop them at a bus stop, while the police were not coming. Suddenly, they saw a police car and pointed out the suspected terrorists, when one of them pulled out a knife and began to attack passers-by. The cops got out and shot him as he tried to escape.”

Beit Shemesh police reported that the two terrorists tried to board a bus on Rechov Yechezkel Hanovi. They were held off by local residents.

An MDA spokesman said that they first got a report of the stabbing at 7:53 a.m.

  1. We lived in RBS Gimmel — the place is FILLED with illegal arab workers who sleep in empty buildings and party all night. They are aggressive and intimidating to residents. When I called police to request them to come and clean out the buildings of these illegal workers at night, they refused.

  2. Even though RBS3 is a fully legal, planned community, located many kilometers inside the internationally recognized borders of Israel, it is uniquely vulnerable. As a planned religious community, few residents are armed, and being a new development, it is home to many olim, so even fewer residents have any military training. Until today, in spite of the complaints all that could be done was to pray and go about one’s business, relying on the protection of HaShem – no one else seemed to show much interest in creating a secure environment.
The comments of EY Yid are accurate and the lack of security must be laid at the feet of the developers – both governmental and private, and their management teams. They have looked the other way when hiring construction workers and they do not exercise proper supervision. They kept insisting that the workers would not do anything to risk their incomes – an attitude, given the current matzav that borders on insane…
I sincerely hope that the project will be halted TODAY, and remain stopped until the security question can be properly addressed. Yes, profits will be compromised, workers will suffer loss of wages, jobs will not be done on time; but what will it gain anyone (other than the murderous Hamas/PA) to allow the present vulnerability to remain? Because of the unconscionable lack of response of the authorities ( was it really 45 minutes before the police showed up?!!!), it is imperative that the residents organize themselves into a neighborhood watch and that guards be hired to patrol the neighborhood. Yes, HaShem is in control and I will be eternally grateful for the way today’s attack turned out, but it should not have happened in the first place.
We are forbidden to be fools when it comes to our own health and defense. First, we pray and learn and devote our lives to mitzvot, then we must act with the intelligence G-d gives us and have rachmanos on our children and ourselves. I cant believe that anyone moved to RBS3 to become a passive victim.

  3. Arab construction workers are everywhere in EY. It is well known, but not published, that the Arab workers occupy the building they are constructing. They sleep, eat and use the facilities in the house before they are rented/sold. A few visits to some of the properties for rent/sale show signs of Arab occupation — dirty kitchen, bathrooms, pillows, food garbage, etc. But these terrorists are specially trained and sent from outside a Jewish community to infiltrate Jewish communities.
