two-glasses-of-sodaNew York – The city Board of Health today has approved Mayor Michael Bloomberg’s plan to ban large sugary drinks.

The panel, reports NY1, voted 8-0 with one abstention this morning in favor of the plan to prohibit restaurants, movie theaters and other establishments from selling sugar-filled drinks larger than 16 ounces.

The mayor and Health Commissioner Doctor Thomas Farley say the plan will cut down on obesity in the city.

Opponents say the ban will hurt businesses and that they plan to continue the fight in court. The ban will take effect in March.

  1. Your headline is incorrect! It should read, “Thanx to…..” for spitting in the face of all the Frumah voters & overturning against our will, “term limits”! But of course Matzav being ignorant of the political scene in Brooklyn, will, like usual, block out this comment! Shame on your ignorance! What, are you scared of?

  2. be prepared for all your rights & freedoms to be taken away slowly but surely-not in one shot-& soon WE will not be able to live in the USA as frum yidden. all our rights & freedoms are being taken from us one at a time & the USA is about to become what used to be communist russia

pack your bags NOW & head for Eretz Yisroel, while the pressure is not so hard & before america is attacked by iran. for then it will be too late & everyone will be leaving in poverty, wishing they had left-now-when they were told.

BOTTOM LINE:this is all the work of Hashem & the choice is yours if you wish to leave now or wait & suffer ahead C”V

i wish everyone a ksiva v’chasima tova ahead

  3. Don’t fall for the massive amount of messaging bought and paid for by corporations. Putting calories on menus was a great move. This is another step, a bit over the line, but let’s face reality. The rising rates of obesity including in our own community are going to cost all of us our lives and a tremendous amount of money in rising insurance rates. This legislation would never have been introduced if we were living healthier.
