dr-michael-salzhauerBay Harbor Island, Florida – The local plastic surgeon who appeared in a controversial music video is under a new wave of criticism after his offer to Jewish singles.

Dr. Michael Salzhauer, the Orthodox Jewish Bay Harbor plastic surgeon who made national headlines for commissioning a rock band to write a song about nose jobs, has put himself front and center with a controversial new offer.

The doctor’s new plan involves cosmetic surgery for Orthodox Jewish singles who cannot get married. “I made an offer on my Facebook page that if there were any singles in the Orthodox community that felt they could benefit from cosmetic surgery, I would do it pro bono,” said Salzhauer.

Salzhauer said he was inspired by a recent article in a Jewish newspaper that detailed the crisis of getting married in the Jewish community. He believes that cosmetic surgery could lead to more marriages.

Fresh off the music video controversy where the lead singer plays a young man who cannot seem to get a date because of a nose that looks like “Jewcan Sam,” comes another splash that some may find offensive.  Under Dr. Salzhauer’s plan, shadchanim would single out Jewish singles who they thought needed cosmetic surgery but cannot afford it.

Salzhauer, who is very involved in the Jewish community and was honored Tuesday night from an organization that helps out Jewish children with cancer, says this is his way of giving back. “A lot of good could come out of all this publicity, if it helps people in my community find their prospective matches and form families and have happy lives,” he said.

  1. wow! look at the difference between this guy andothers
he saw a problem (to paraphrase a popular ad, “its sad but true, people judge you by how you look”), and is offering to put his own money to solve the problem. others looked for something to hang the issue on then asks for your money totry out with!

  2. If we can’t get our children shidduchim because of a lack of cosmetic surgery, we are in bigger trouble than we thought!
Not only that, if true it further emphasizes how shidduchim has become more modeled after Hollywood than a Torah true way of life.
It’s very nice of him and he probably needs to repair his image through that video, but it is a time to reflect on what shidduchim is about.

  3. The headline of this article is inaccurate. Dr. Salzhauer’s an eirlicher Yid that wants to help (and does) others. Unfortunately there are a few people that may need his services. Please don’t make fun of them or Dr. Salzhauer’s offer to help them. Yes this may the answer to the shidduch crises of a few yechidim but not big picture that this headline seems to be alluding to.

We should never know of the zturos that others are going through.

  4. Unless you’re a Lamarckian, this “solution” won’t help the next generation.

But I guess we’ll cross the bridge of that nose when we come to it.

  5. whether the music video was wrong or not, the fact is that this yid is willin got give out a service to those in need , worth thousands of dollars. it s a big chessed!

  6. get your heads out of the sand. Assur Lo ladam sheyisa isha ad sheyirenah… Chalila to say looks don’t count. Veahavta lreiacha Kamocha.

  7. I don’t agree with the trend of getting elective plastic surgery to begin with and I truly believe that we have to shift our focus as a community…

That said, this man isn’t forcing you or your family to have these procedures performed. He is trying to do something to help other Jews, some of whom may have their own rabbanim and personal situations that make the surgical option something they were considering. I wish him a tremendous yasher koach.

  8. Don’t think “nose job”–that’s not what this is about. He also means serious deformities that can be corrected with surgery. That’s a big chesed.

  9. #15: If you are serious, then you are part of the problem!
Whatever the case, I do have to admit, yes it is a chessed from the doctor’s point of view. So I was wrong that I didn’t give him a yasher koach, whether or not we agree with the concept.

  10. it is a bit shallow. better he should offer his time to Jews who have been in unfortunate terror attacks. The kids need shidduchim and its not going to make them more compatible in the long run to look more attractive. That may get them to the chupa (MAYBE) but outlook and mindset and conscious thinking is the biggest issue.

  11. I don’t understand what the complaint against him is. He’s offering to help people. We can chose whether or not we would like to avail ourselves to his free professional services. What’s the complaint?

I just wish that this would be a little quieter, as not to embarrass those who could/would use his chesed.
