It is with great sadness that Matzav.com reports the petirah of Rav Yisroel Gottlieb zt”l. He was 81.
Rav Yisroel was a son of Rav Ephraim Gottlieb, a noted chossid of Karlin Stolin who lived in the Katamon neighborhood of Yerushalayim, and his mother, Mrs. Chaya Gottlieb, who was one of the first to sew kaftans for Chassidim in Yerushalayim.
He was a son-in-law of the late Rav Chaim Shimon Ze’ev Rubin.
Rav Yisroel was loved by one and all. He notably served as the baal tefillah for the Yomim Noraim in Karlin Stolin.
The levayah was held at the Shamgar Funeral Home in Yerushalayim, passing the Karlin Stolin Bais Midrash at 11 Avinoam Yellin en route to Har Hamenuchos for kevurah there.

Hearing him daven המלך, his heart-piercing voice, put a הרהור תשובה into everyone’s heart.
אבד חסיד מן הארץ.
His התבטלות to the Rebbe Shlita was a lesson for us all.

I did not know this nifter at all. But I have a follow up comment on what the first one said about hisbatlus to the Rebbe. I am in my upper 50s and I grew up in Detroit. I remember as a kid busloads of Stoliner Chassdim coming to spend a Shabbos in Detroit each year by the yahrtzeit of the Rebbe, R Yaakov Chaim, who is buried in Detroit. In those days the current Rebbe was a teenager. The hisbatlus that the elder Chassidim, many of whom were old enough to be his Zaidy, had to the rebbe who was a young bochur was quite remarkable.
The rebbe would sit quietly at the head of the table, and zekeinim like R Nissim Pilchik would speak, and R Yom Tov Erlich would lead the zemiros. The love and respect they showed for the rebbe is fully implanted into the DNA of chassidus of Karlin Stolin. (Not meant to detract from the love and respect that most Chassidus have for their rebbe. What was unique and remarkable about Stolin is the age difference between the rebbe in those days and the senior chassidim. Even Sadigur which now has a young rebbe; he was already married when he took over. In Stolin, the Rebbe has had that position, or at least was warming up to it, since he was a young child.)
