candle-small5It is with great sadness that we report the passing of the Bobover Rebbetzin, Rebbetzin Hesa Halberstam a”h, wife of the previous Bobover Rebbe, Rav Naftali Halberstam zt”l. The Rebbetzin was 80 years old.

The Rebbetzin, a daughter of Rav Yosef and Rebbetzin Lifsha of Dezh zt”l, was known as a tzadeikes who was involved in numerous acts of chessed throughout her years. With humility and immense respect, she assisted her husband, allowing him to engage in harbotzas haTorah and guide his thousands of followers.

She provided great chizuk to countless women and girls, and delivered inspiring shiurim and lectures to the women of the community. The Rebbetzin authored a fascinating book recounting some of the history of World War II and its impact on the Bobover chassidus and her own experiences during that tumultuous time.

Since the petirah of Rav Naftali some six years ago, the Rebbetzin had been in a weakened state. She passed away today.

The Rebbetzin is survived by her two daughters, the wives of Rav Mordechai Dovid Ungar of Bobov and Rav Yehoshua Rubin, Bobover rov.

The levaya will take place this afternoon, at 6:30 p.m., at the Bobover Bais Medrash on 15th Avenue at 45th Street in Boro Park, Brooklyn.

Yehi zichrah boruch.

  1. BDE. Just interesting to note that her late Husband R’ Naftuli Halbershtam, was named after the Rebbe R’ Naftuli Tzvi of Ropshitz who’s Yuhrtzeit is today. When R Naftulche Halbeshtam (how he was called) was born his father wanted to name him somthing else but his grandfather suggested to name him Naftuli Tzvi after the Ropshetzer because he will hide his gadlus (greatness) like the Ropshitzer.

  2. What does it mean That Harav Unger is “of Bobov” and Rav Rubin is Bobover Rov. What does “of Bobov” mean

  3. To Chaim Yankel: They didn’t even mention the Rebbetzin’s brother in law, Rav Benzion Halberstam, the Bobover Rebbe.

  4. She was an aristocratic individual. To categorize her as ‘Selfless’ is a gross understatement. She was a true Rebitzin and a princess. To know her was an honor. I was a neighbor nearly 30 years ago and have gotten to know her. She came to my children’s weddings just from that acquaintance. She was a true tz’nuah. She was a true aishess chayil – a model for all to emulate. The world has lost a giant today.

  5. I thought Reb Naftultshe had 4 daughters.
Rav Rubin is the oldest son in law, but Rav Unger is the Bobover Rav.

  6. The Bobover Rebbetzin, Rebbetzin Hesa Halberstam a”h, truly was/is a great tzadeikes, who, with an aboundance of loving kindness and caring, generousity of heart + spirit, along with her great brilliance, reached out way beyond her community to me. I shall be forever grateful to her dedication, for the privilege and opportunity to know her, learn from her, as well as for the powerful, righteous example she set for all womanhood. I am deeply saddened by her passing and its loss to this world. May her memory be for a blessing.
