It is with grade sadness that Matzav.com reports the petirah of Rav Alter Yitzchok Elimelech Safran zt”l, the Kamarna Rebbe of Boro Park, who passed away yesterday. He was in his nineties.
The Galician-born Rebbe was one of the last survivors of those who participated in the legendary “Rabbis’ March” on Washington in 1943.
Known as a tzaddik and an exalted oveid Hashem, the Rebbe led his bais medrash in Boro Park.
His father was Rav Chaim Yaakov Safran, the Kamarna Rebbe, who led a kehillah in Europe before the war and subsequently in the United States and then in Yerushalayim.
He is survived by his children and many grandchildren.
The levayah was held yesterday at Shomrei Hadas Chapels in Boro Park, Brooklyn.
