After an uninterrupted span of twenty-seven years, the New York State Thruway Sloatsburg Tefillas Mordechai Mincha Area will be relocated for the summer due to the temporary closure of the service area for renovations, as reported earlier here on Matzav.com.
The Town of Ramapo has graciously agreed to host the newly established rest stop for the minyan starting from Thursday, June 22nd. The rest stop can be found at 120 Torne Valley Road in Hillburn, conveniently located just a short distance from Exit 15A of the Thruway.
As part of an extensive modernization endeavor, a total of eleven service areas along the New York State Thruway are undergoing redevelopment.
The absence of the Mincha service area will be deeply felt, especially by those travelers bound for the Catskills region, as travelers could join a minyan and take advatnage of kosher food available.
13 years ago, the Sloatsburg Mincha location was renamed as the Tefillas Mordechai Mincha Area in memory of R’ Mordechai Friedman, a police chaplain who was a resident of Kiryas Yoel. Mr. Friedman devoted his Thursday evenings to overseeing the operations at the service area, and his contributions are fondly remembered.
