It is with great sadness that Matzav.com reports the petirah of the Shatzer Rebbe of Williamsburg, Rav Yosef Chaim Moskowitz zt”l. He was 78.
The rebbe was a son of Rav Yechiel Michel Moskowitz, who was a son of Rav Shalom Moskowitz, the Shatzer Rebbe.
The rebbe married his wife, a daughter of the Dezher Rebbe of Miami, and embarked on decades of Torah learning and teaching, leading his kehillah, Khal Daas Shalom-Shatz in Williamsburg.
The rebbe was known as a tremendous talmid chochom who authored many seforim.
Among his seforim are Ohr Shmona on Chanukah, Be’er Lachai Al HaTorah, Gedulas Mordechai on Megillas Esther, Devar Yosef on Sugyos HaShas, Hiskadeish Chag on the Haggadah Shel Pesach, Chasdecha Mechayim Al HaTorah, Niflaos MiTorasecha, Ateres Avos on Pirkei Avos, and Pnei Yosef Al HaTorah.
He leaves behind a wonderful family of bnei Torah, including his only son, Rav Yitzchok Yechiel Michel Moskowitz, av bais din of Shatz-Monsey; and his daughters, the wives of Rav Yaakov Dovid Bentzion Teitelbaum, Rosh Kollel Me’orerei Hashachar; Rav Yisrael Avraham Alter Taub, av bais din of Zichron Naftali Aryeh-Kaliv in Borough Park; Rav Dovid Dov Hager, son of the Vizhnitzer Rebbe of Monsey; Rav Menachem Shlomo Hager, son of the Vizhnitzer Rebbe of London; Rav Pinchas Shalom Rotenberg, son of the Kossoner Rebbe; Rav Naftali Meisels, and Rav Avraham Yehoshua Asher Twersky.
The levayah was held today at his shul, Khal Daas Shalom-Shatz in Williamsburg and then at the Shatzer Bais Hamedrash in Monsey. Kevurah then followed in Monsey.
Yehi zichrah boruch.

ברוך דיין האמת
Was he the owner of the now-closed Shaatzer Matzoh Bakery? The Shaatzer Aravos?
Did he once have a Shul on Ocean Parkway in Kensington?
He did. I used to go with my father every shabbos and yom tov until he moved to Williamsburg in the mid-90s.
