The Hamas terrorist group has indicated its readiness to engage in discussions with the administration of U.S. President Donald Trump, Russia’s RIA state news agency reports.
“We are ready for contact and talks with the Trump administration,” senior Hamas Politburo member Mousa Abu Marzouq was quoted as saying by RIA.
He further stated, “In the past, we did not object to contacts with the administration of Biden, Trump, or any other US administration, and we are open to talks with all international parties.”
Marzouq explained to RIA that because of Washington’s significant influence in the Middle East, engaging with the U.S. has become a necessity for Hamas.
“That is why we welcomed the talks with the Americans and have no objection to this issue,” he added.
While it is unclear when Marzouq’s interview with RIA was conducted, his statements were published following comments made by Trump during a press conference with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Trump had mentioned that the U.S. intended to take control of the Gaza Strip after relocating its residents and focusing on its economic development.
Earlier, while answering questions from reporters alongside Netanyahu, Trump discussed his plan to move Gazans to Egypt, Jordan, and other countries, with the aim of “getting a beautiful area to resettle people, permanently.”
Hamas officials sharply criticized Trump’s proposal, calling it “racist” and accusing it of being “an overt attempt to eliminate the Palestinian issue and renounce the national rights of the Palestinian people.”
