Twitter, Meta, and TikTok stand as three of the largest social media behemoths globally. However, these companies are also among the most negatively perceived brands in the United States, according to the recently published 2023 Axios Harris Poll 100 reputation rankings, CNBC reports.

Despite their immense user bases across the country, the social media giants could not evade inclusion in the list. The rankings were compiled by Axios and The Harris Poll, who surveyed over 16,000 Americans to assess the reputation of the 100 most prominent companies across nine reputation categories.

Both Meta and Twitter received poor scores in the “culture” and “ethics” categories. These companies faced public backlash after laying off numerous employees through email, which was just one of the many controversies Twitter has experienced recently. In fact, Twitter’s value has declined significantly, estimated to be only one-third of the $44 billion Elon Musk paid to acquire it in October 2022, as estimated by Fidelity.

TikTok performed poorly in the “citizenship” and “character” categories due to mounting concerns from American lawmakers regarding potential influence from the Chinese federal government on the platform.

However, these three brands are not alone in receiving low approval ratings. The following seven brands are currently regarded as having the worst reputations in America, according to the poll:

  1. The Trump Organization
  2. FTX
  3. Fox Corporation
  4. Twitter
  5. Meta
  6. Spirit Airlines
  7. TikTok

The Trump Organization was singled out as the company with the most negative public perception in the country, being the only business on the list to receive a “very poor” overall score, the lowest possible rating.

The Trump Organization scored particularly poorly in the “character,” “trust,” and “ethics” categories. The ranking was published shortly before former president Donald Trump, who led the Trump Organization for decades, was charged with 34 felony counts of falsifying business records prior to the 2016 presidential election.

FTX, a now-bankrupt cryptocurrency exchange, received the second-worst reputation among Americans following its collapse in November 2022. The situation worsened after CNBC reported that the former CEO, Sam Bankman-Fried, engaged in unauthorized trading using funds from borrowers’ accounts, leading to a billion-dollar class action lawsuit.

Fox Corporation made the list due to its recent settlement of the Dominion Voting Systems defamation lawsuit for $785 million. The media company was sued for spreading the false claim that voting machines manipulated the 2020 election.

BP and Bitcoin narrowly missed the top seven but still received “poor” ratings. BP’s Gulf of Mexico oil spill in 2011 earned it the title of “Worst Company in America.” Twelve years later, it seems the British oil and gas giant still has a long road ahead in rebuilding public trust, with particularly low scores in the “citizenship” and “ethics” categories.

Notable companies that also made the list include fashion brands Balenciaga and Shein, ranked at 10th and 16th, respectively.

Months after a controversial November 2022 ad featuring children holding teddy bears with harnesses, some Twitter users continue to call for boycotts against Balenciaga. The luxury fashion house from Spain later issued an apology on Instagram, expressing regret for the “disturbing images” in their campaign.

This year marks the first appearance of Balenciaga and FTX among the top 100 most visible companies in the country.

The Trump Organization, TikTok, and Spirit Airlines maintained their positions from last year’s rankings. Meta and Twitter experienced a slight improvement in reputation, moving up by one spot each, while Fox Corporation went from being the fifth-worst to the third-worst.

Axios and Harris Poll topped the list as the two most negatively perceived brands in the US.
Axios, the New York Times, the Washington Post and countless other Liberal mainstream media outlets scored particularly poorly in the “character,” “trust,” and “ethics” categories.
“I’ve had enough of their dishonest reporting,” Axios quoted one poll respondent as saying about the aforementioned mainstream media outlets. “Axios and its Liberal mainstream media allies claim to be America’s political watchdogs, holding politicians accountable when they engage in crooked activities,” the poll respondent said, “but they never report about Biden’s crooked foreign business deals, which tells you all need to know about these phony media watchdogs.”
Sources say that the Axios journalist who wrote the aforementioned article was fired shortly after the article was published online on the Axios website.

  2. Idiots follow mainstream fake news, intelligent people follow Trump, Twitter, Tucker.
The media is lashing out because Twitter is now a more trusted source for information than them.
