Local authorities apprehended an armed individual near Donald Trump’s rally in Coachella Valley yesterday. The local sheriff suggested it could have been a third possible attempt on the former president’s life.
The suspect, identified as Vem Miller, a 49-year-old from Las Vegas, was found at a checkpoint approximately a quarter-mile from the rally. According to the Riverside County sheriff’s office, Miller was carrying fake VIP and press passes, along with unregistered weapons, including a loaded shotgun, handgun, and a high-capacity magazine.
Law enforcement sources told The Post that Miller didn’t have proper identification when stopped at the checkpoint. During a search of his vehicle, authorities uncovered the weapons, leading to his detention.
“We probably stopped another assassination attempt,” said Riverside County Sheriff Chad Bianco, according to the Riverside Press-Enterprise.
However, other law enforcement officials informed The Post that the FBI does not believe this was an assassination plot, and that Trump’s life was not in immediate danger.
Miller, who is a registered Republican with suspected far-right views, was arrested for possession of a loaded firearm and a high-capacity magazine.
He was later released after posting $5,000 bail, according to police records.
This incident follows a summer of heightened security concerns, with two previous near-misses involving gunmen targeting the former president.
In July, 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks opened fire during a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania. Trump was grazed by a bullet that came dangerously close to being fatal, while a bystander was killed and two others were injured. Crooks was fatally shot by Secret Service snipers shortly after he fired.
Then, just over two months later, a man armed with an assault rifle was caught hiding in the bushes at Trump’s West Palm Beach golf course, just 300 yards away from where Trump was playing.
The suspect, Ryan Routh, was noticed when a Secret Service agent on patrol saw the barrel of the gun sticking out from the bushes. Agents opened fire, but Routh managed to escape, only to be caught later while fleeing on the highway.
Federal prosecutors revealed that Routh had been hiding in the bushes for around 12 hours, waiting for an opportunity to target Trump.

In a stunning turn of events that is certain to send shockwaves throughout the country, the FBI and Secret Service issued a joint statement on Sunday saying: “We are proud to announce that, to the best of our knowledge, there were no assassination attempts against former President Donald Trump on Sunday!”
“This remarkable accomplishment,” the statement went on to say, “can only be attributed to the incredible diligence, hard work and extreme dedication of the FBI, Secret Service and law enforcement agencies throughout the country, who spent countless hours and innumerable sleepless nights ensuring that Sunday would be a glorious day in the life of Mr. Trump, a day without any known, or reported assassination attempts perpetrated against him.”
The statement continued: “We would like to thank all law enforcement agencies throughout the country for making this day a unique and wondeful day for Mr. Trump, a day that he, and all Americans will remember for the rest of their lives.”
“If only we, at the FBI and Secret Service, could repeat this incredible feat tomorrow, on Monday, October the 14th, THAT would be an even greater milestone for us and for Mr. Trump!” the statement concluded. “And, there’s no reason why we shouldn’t at least try to reach that amazing milestone, as difficult as it may be! So, come on, everybody! Let’s go for it!”
