hurricane-sandy[Video below.] Lakewood, NJ – A mass asifah and appeal is planned for this Motzaei Shabbos at Ateres Reva Hall in Lakewood, New Jersey at 8:30 PM.

The goal is to raise desperately needed funds for the hundreds of families in the Rockaways and Five Towns who were hard hit by Hurricane Sandy. Many have literally lost everything: their homes, their possessions, their home-based parnassahs.

Speakers at the asifah are expected to be Rav Yaakov Bender, Rosh HaYeshiva of Yeshiva Darchei Torah; Rabbi Yehiel M. Kalish, a Far Rockaway resident and national director of government affairs for Agudath Israel of America; Rabbi Boruch Ber Bender, founder and president of Achiezer; as well as one of the roshei yeshiva of Beth Medrash Govoha. The evening will be chaired by R’ Menashe Frankel.

Families are hurting and need to get back on their feet. They simply need money. Funds raised will be distributed through the community-wide Achiezer Hurricane Relief Fund, which is overseen by a united committee of local rabbonim and askonim.

The Blum family of Dalgar Caterers is sponsoring light refreshments.

  1. I’m not saying people don’t have losses. But aren’t their homes, and their possessions, covered by homeowners’ insurance?

if klal yisroel would have done teshuva already, before this happened R”L (we had more then enough tzaros to bring us to teshuva R”L)
then this whole horrific & catastrophic tragedy could have been avoided

sometimes we leave Hashem no choice (it makes me sad to write this but its the truth & we need to face the truth & do something about it)
