kever-noam-elimelechToday, thousands of Chassidim will be visiting the tzion of the Noam Elimelech, Rav Elimelech Weisblum of Lizhensk zt”l, whose 225th yahrtzeit is today, 21 Adar.

Rav Elimelech, the author of Noam Elimelech, was a talmid of the Maggid of Mezritch. Among his prominent talmidim were Rav Avraham Yehoshua Heshel of Apta, the Chozeh of Lublin, the Maggid of Kozhnitz, and Rav Menachem Mendel of Rimanov.

Airplanes were chartered to transport Yidden from the United States and Eretz Yisroel to join Jews from across Europe in the small Polish town of Lizhensk to daven at the kever.

This year, because the yahrtzeit falls on a Thursday, some Yidden will be spending this coming Shabbos near the tzion as well.

In the past, it was very difficult for kohanim to go to Lizhensk to daven near the kever of Rav Elimelech due to the fact that the boundaries of the old cemetery of Lizhensk were unclear. It was therefore not known whether they were inadvertently walking on burial grounds. Three years ago, however, much research was done to determine the exact borders of the cemetery from historical records. Based on that information, it has been much easier for kohanim to have access and to be able to daven closer to the kever.

  1. Remember many of these countries are 3 world places regarding medical, technology and emergency care. Rav Avigor Miller z”l warned people not to travel far from home except in emergency situations.

These tzaddikim would rather we daven to and for them from our neighborhood shtiebels. Do not have to physically be in front of the kever.

    Refuah Sheleima to all.

  2. Rebbe Nachman said one should travel as often as possible as one lifts sparks of holiness along the way with one’s mitzvos (i.e. Brachos, davening, tzitzis, emunah, tznius, etc.). Both were big tzaddikim – Eilu V’Eilu Divrei Elokim Chaim. Some people should travel and some people should not. To each his own.
