TikTok has been reinstated on Apple’s and Google’s U.S. app stores following President Donald Trump’s decision to postpone its ban until April 5. This move ensures that the companies will not face penalties for distributing or maintaining the Chinese-owned app.

The widely used short-video platform, which boasts 170 million American users, began restoring its services after being unavailable for several weeks. This restoration aligns with President Trump’s commitment to reestablish access to the app before his inauguration.

Last month, President Trump signed an executive order delaying the TikTok ban for 75 days, allowing ByteDance, the Chinese company that owns TikTok, to continue its U.S. operations temporarily. The directive also specified that the companies operating mobile application stores would not incur fines for hosting or maintaining the TikTok app during this period.

In 2024, TikTok was the second most downloaded app in the U.S., with over 52 million downloads, according to market intelligence firm Sensor Tower. Approximately 52% of these downloads were from the Apple App Store, while 48% were from Google Play.
