Secretary of State Rex Tillerson on Sunday appeared to distinguish President Trump’s values from American values, saying the president “speaks for himself” in terms of his own values, the Daily Beast reports.
Tillerson was asked about Trump’s response to the Charlottesville violence and allegations that he suggested a moral equivalence between neo-Nazis and the individuals protesting against them. “I don’t believe anyone doubts the American people’s values or the commitment of the American government or the government’s agencies to advancing those values and defending those values,” Tillerson said on Fox News Sunday. Asked about Trump’s values, Tillerson said: “The president speaks for himself.”
