Reb Shalom Leibowitz zt”l was a prominent talmid and nephew of Reb Baruch Ber Leibwoitz zt”l. Rav Shalom was known for publishing and organizing the Birkas Shmuel chalakim ב,ג,ד.
Rav Shalom was born  to Reb Yisroel and Chaya Miriam Leibowitz in the early 1900s. At a young age he went to learn in Kletzk and then at the age of 14 went to learn by his uncle, Reb Baruch Ber, in Slabodka and Kamenitz. He also spent time learning by the Brisker Rav.
When the war broke out, a group of bachurim from Kamenitz, together with Rav Shalom, were imprisoned and sent to Siberia. From there they were sent to Buchara. In Buchara, Rav Shalom set up a makeshift yeshiva and said over Reb Boruch Ber’s shiurim every single day. One day, Rav Shalom felt too weak to give shiur since he was suffering from typhus and malaria. Yet, somehow, he mustered the kochos to go and teach Rav Baruch Ber’s shiurim. When he got back to his place, he saw that the roof of the house had collapsed on to his bed.
During that time of sakana, he promised to publish the Birkas Shmuel if he survived the war. After the war, he married Yehudis Hullack and moved to Bensonhurst, where he became the rav of Achi Yosef. He kept his pledge to bring to light the Torah of Rav Baruch Ber.
Shortly after finishing chelek ד, Rav Shalom was niftar on the first day of Chol Hamoed Sukkos in תשכ”ט.
Yehi zichro boruch.
