shlomo-yehudah-rechnitzYeshivas Mir-Yerushalayim, the largest Torah institution in the world with over 7,000 talmidim, is still reeling from the loss of its unforgettable rosh yeshiva, Rav Nosson Tzvi Finkel zt”l. At the same time, theyeshiva, now led by Rav Nosson Tzvi’s son, Rav Eliezer Yehuda, faces debts in the millions.

Matzav.com has confirmed that the Mir has received a donation of $5,000,000 to deal with the crushing debt which was magnified with the petirah of Rav Nosson Tzvi, who shouldered the burden for so long.

The anonymous donor, who resides in Los Angeles, was extremely close to Rav Nosson Tzvi. With amazing altruism and chashivus haTorah, this tomech Torah has shown that today’s economic uncertainty cannot stand in the way of those who seek to be mechazeik Torah and bnei Torah. We wish him continued hatzlacha, and may Hashem shower him with brachos so that he can continue his wonderful work on behalf of the klal.

  1. is the person in picture the donor? if it is why not just say his name? everyone who frequents this site knows who that is how could you say its anonymous?

  2. To Mr Anonymous Shli’tah

We know who you are,but more importantly Hk’bh knows who you are. May Hk’BH (and will) pay you back ‘Kaifel Kiflayim”
    Ashreichem Yisroel

  3. Let’s give this man credit where credit is due
He has made a big kiddush Hashem by showing how to give and where to give to
He has set an example for all

  4. B”H I feel safe to say that I expected no less from him. I remember the Hachnosas S”T he made last year sukkos by the Mir. I could imagine that he and Reb Nosson Zt”l had some sort of special shaychus. I know a few other Yeshivos which he helped tremendously. And altough he sometimes did it from behind the scenes, “kol harodef mikavod…”

  5. The point of this post is to have others follow.
He would never do it for himself, rabbosei let’s start making a difference.
I pledge 1000 dollars to see that we ALL make difference.

  6. We all donate to yeshivos. How does an editor decide when to call someone a Tomeich Torah and when to call one a Baal habus? Our religion teaches quality over quantity so $5M irrelevant in counter argument.

“this tomech Torah has shown that today’s economic uncertainty cannot stand in the way of those who seek to be mechazeik Torah and bnei Torah. uncertainty cannot stand in the way of those who seek to be mechazeik Torah and bnei Torah. ” this article doesn’t show this at all bc let’s say someone with a net worth of $50M gives away 5, someone else who’s not making it in today’s economic uncertainty may be unable to give anything.

Why not instead just report the news and not make judgmental statements or is this website intending to switch from journalism to being a blog?

  7. If anoyone in the world would have half a heart the way Reb .. Does the world would not have any tzoros. I don’t know of anyone else in the world that has the heart and tzidkus that he has. There isn’t a meshulach, yeshiva, mosaad, almanah or school that hasn’t received a substantial donation from him. A very large chunk of LA tzedaka comes from him and his brother. The ribono she’ll olam should keep filling his pockets with $$ as most of it goes tto tzedaka to help ANYONE in need. Reb.. His choshuveh wife and family should be gbentshed with nachas gezunt and every brocha imaginable for all they mean to the community and to klal yisroel

  8. To Clarifier,

    1) This person is referred to as a “Tomeich Torah” because he regularly and consistently supports Torah endeavors and institutions.

    2) It is boduk umenusah that people who make comments like yours would not give the money if they did have it, and do not give nearly as readily even in small amounts.

Jealousy is such a terrible middah. There you have some clarification.

  9. To comment # 20, you’re right. If you’re going to report a story on this person, this is not the one to choose.
If other people had an extra $5 million to give, a lot of them would give it too.
What’s unique about this “anonymous” person is that he feels that every Yid is a part of his Family. He employs hundreds of Frum Yidden and is the go-to address for anybody and everybody who needs help. Every Motzei Shabbos, there is a line outside his house of over 100 people. He’s unassuming, accessible, approachable and lives a very modest life in a very modest house. He gives tzedaka “across party lines”. He loves everybody! May he and his Family be Gebentched with “kol Mili D’Maytav”.

  10. May he be gebentched, and be zoche to continue doing his avodas kodesh and may we all be zoche to learn from him as he is a true machshiv torah and nosen

  11. There is no place like “the MIR”. The impact of the mir is far reaching waaay beyond it’s walls to Torah and yiddishkeit all aound the WORLD

  12. My family is so inspired by what this person did, giving such a generous donation to the yeshiva where 4 of our sons have attended. We thank him for setting such an example of what is really chashuv. What a zechus.

  13. He is a tremendous Baal Tzedaka. I went to Yeshiva with his twin brother in Telz and still have a strong shaychos to the Yeshiva. He is a Talmud Muvhak of the Rosh Hayeshiva , Harav Avrohom Chaim Levin and is the main supporter of the Yeshiva. The Rosh Yeshiva looks forward to coming to L.A and spending a few days a year in their homes. They should be gebentched!

It is amazing – I was waiting to see if anyone will have a negative comment. What we should learn from this man is to focus on the positive and to build, instead of negativity and knocking…if people can learn to try to not be so bitter, this is the person to learn from.

  15. Kol Hakovod! May he and his family be blessed with Brochos Ad Beliy Dai.

The sad part though is that the RY, Zatzal couldnt see this. However, its clear that he was able to ‘poiyl’ this out from the Oilom Haemes.

  16. comment #20
What type of feedback were you expecting? I was wondering how was that one person gonna find something negative about this article. I gotta say, you won! You were the only person who thought of the unthinkable. You should feel so so proud of yourself! Get a life!

  17. I do not mean to find any negativity in this man’s action, but the way it was reported…They mention an “anonymous” donor but post his picture…and for those who didn’t recognize his picture, the name appears when you hold your mouse over the picture.

Once again, his action is remarkable and an example to us all…but there is no anonymity in it!
