Tonight, the Ateres Chaya ballroom in Brooklyn will be the site of a magnificent kiddush Hashem, as thousands of people will be joining rabbonim at Merkaz Hakolilim D’Shikun Skver’s 48th annual dinner.
There is no denying the difficult financial reality that most Torah institutions face. Merkaz Hakolilim has not been spared its share of financial difficulties, yet the talmidei chachomim at the kollel continue learning with mesirus nefesh. Not only has the kol Torah not been diminished, but the yungeleit have enriched the Torah community with a new brilliant sefer of shailos uteshuvos that covers a broad spectrum of halachic topics. The contents of the sefer elicited the admiration of many rabbonim and gedolim who previewed the teshuvos.
At the dinner, Rav Yidel Horowitz of Yeshivas Ateres Yakov in Lawrence and Rav Binyomin Cherny of Yeshivas Sh’or Yoshuv in Far Rockaway will be presented with Harbotzas Hatorah Awards. Reb Dovid Yida Rosenblum will receive the Tomech Torah Award. The Kesser Shem Tov Award will be presented to Reb Mordechai Grunwald, the devoted shamash and askan of New Square.
A special guest of honor from London, Rabbi Elozer Hopstein, will receive the Reb Zalke Korn Memorial Award.
The Humanitarian Award will be presented to Dr. Glenn Hammer, Assistant Professor of Medicine at Mt. Sinai Hospital.
The dinner is dedicated in memory of Rav Hershel Diament zt”l, the unforgettable rosh yeshiva of the Mesivta in London, who served the community and taught Torah for sixty years.
